Hospice Care Plus, Inc. is in the midst of a capital campaign, referred to as “The Hope Fund,” to fund the construction of a freestanding hospice inpatient care facility in Richmond, Kentucky.  In line with our mission, the addition of a hospice inpatient facility would allow Hospice Care Plus to better meet the end-of-life care needs of the patients in our six counties.  Hospice is, and will remain, primarily a home-based program whose goal is to provide care and support to patients and their family members at the end of life.  It is unrealistic, however, to believe that home-based hospice care alone will meet the needs of the patients and families we serve.

Care Provided

The 12-bed facility will provide three levels of care to terminally ill patients who have elected to receive hospice services. The levels of care that will be provided to patients at our facility are:
  • General Inpatient Care: Patients who are close to death and require skilled care to manage their pain and symptoms.
  • Respite Care: Five day respite service to give caregivers a rest from the burden of caregiving.
  • Short-term Care: Patients who have no caregivers at home and are close to death.

Whom the Facility Will Benefit

Patients who will benefit from a hospice inpatient facility include those who:
  • temporarily need intensive pain control and symptom management that cannot be provided in the home;
  • are actively dying and whose caregivers or family members do not feel comfortable completing the dying process in the home;
  • have no caregivers or family members in the home;
  • have caregivers who need "respite care," or a brief break from constant caregiving in order to renew their strength and energy.
Inpatient hospice facilities are designed to provide support to the entire family during times of crisis. The high quality of care can relieve families of the physical demands that come with caring for someone who is terminally ill and ensure patients' needs will be met. An inpatient hospice facility also allows the family to prepare for the transition from hospital to home.

What Makes an Inpatient Facility Unique?

  • 24-hour visitation access for family and friends
  • Special family rooms and facilities to allow for rest, relaxation or special gatherings
  • Ability to bring pets
  • Meals and activities based on need and desire and are not regimented
  • Interior design to look, smell and feel like home
  • Garden and outdoor space for patients, families and other visitors
The projected cost of building, equipping and furnishing the hospice inpatient facility is: $3,750,000
