Who is Eligible for Hospice?
Patients may choose hospice if:
- they have a life expectancy thought to be less than six months by the patient's physician
- they desire comfort care and are no longer seeking curative treatment
- they reside in a nursing facility listed below
How Does Hospice Help the Family?
- communicates with and supports family during the patient's illness
- provides education on the disease process
- advocates for decisions made by the family and patient on how the patient wants to live
- provides spiritual support
- assists with living wills, advanced directives and powers of attorney
- assists family with completing insurance forms
- supports the family for at least one year after the loss of their loved one
